What is so strange was that the killer didn't correlate with Norse http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berserker tradition of killing in anger. Surviving witnesses said he looked as though he was mowing a lawn.

The worst form of madness is the kind where the person appears rational, but is anything but. He or she is rational only within his or her own mind. Calmly killing people is anything but normal. As the cartoon says, giving up weapons does not protect one from insane people with weapons.
