Animal Matters

Cattle and other grazing mammals align North-South and no one has noticed until now. Meanwhile, the polar bears are treading water. Here's to hoping polar bears evolve to be good swimmers. I'd hate to see them go extinct.

I don't accept that feeding herd mammals position themselves according to magnetic north south. Whats in it for them?

What does "tend" mean in the study results.

Is the study accepting certain statistical variations that would support the N-S theory?

The study didn't really say explicitlt whether far southern hemisphere herds were studied. Kangaroos for example often share coverage of all directions for protection.

Pete,

I'm sure the presence of predators changes the herd's position. They'll protect the females and the young in the center, etc. screw North-South polarity. But, it is interesting. They did say that Scottish cattle might be different as well.
