If You Want....

If you want truth, seek within.
If you want to know God, seek within.
If you want to be whole and complete, seek within.
If you want to be wealthy, seek within.

If you want happiness, stop thinking.
If you want joy, stop thinking.
If you want bliss, stop thinking.
If you want love, stop thinking.
If you want peace, stop thinking.

If you want to be a vessel of change, be empty.
If you want to be a vessel of love, be empty.
If you want to be a vessel of Light, be empty.
If you want to be any vessel, be empty.

Just as one can't fill a jug with water if it's full of dirt, one can't be a spiritual vessel if the vessel is full of thoughts. A spiritual vessel can only be filled with spiritual water if it is empty first.

Still the mind, empty the mind, realize you are not your mind, but the stillness underneath your mind. I'm not asking you to believe anything I say. Look for yourself. Listen to others in stillness. Be with others in stillness.

Anonymous Julie sent me this gift, and this gift. But at the end of the day, question everyone and everything, find your own Truth, and especially, find your own Silence or Stillness.

John,
I love Adyashanti, too. One thing he says that has been really helpful to me, is that we need not "do" anything. We need not empty our minds, or seek in a certain place, or stop...whaterver, pushing away that which we are. We are That which we seek, already in full measure. I love that you bring your awareness to the stillness behind thinking, and the stillness beyond thought. Without pushing away, we can be drawn into the silnent stillness you mention. Here we realize, in a very potent way, we are not our mind, but as you say, we are the stillness underneath our mind. This is beautiful, my friend, and yes, each of us can be drawn into this stillness on our own - not from pushing or pulling, but just allowing.

Meredith,

Thank you. Not sure why I wrote what I wrote. It was very spontaneous. We were That before we were born, but as far as consciously being That, we were last in that pure state when we were newborns. As our minds developed, our stillness became masked or covered up by the noise of our growing minds, but no one ever taught us how to balance the mental stillness and the mental noise. All the teachings are signposts to stillness and that balancing act, yet people still crave signposts and guidance when they need neither. Our minds are such great tricksters. The great delusion is believing that we are our thoughts, when in reality we are the stillness from which thoughts arise. I know this truth intellectually, and sometimes spiritually. The balance is still tipped in favor of my mind. Why, I do not know. Perhaps what we call the "soul" does. Flowers bloom at their own appropriate times. Early bloomers are rare.

Love,
John
