Water

Water, such a simple substance. We take it for granted, but it is as necessary for our survival as air. Its properties underpin our internal biochemistry. I'm talking fresh water here. Seawater kills humans if they drink it, although mice can filter the salt through their kidneys and drink seawater with no problem. We depend upon the sea for fish and other forms of protein. We depend upon rivers and lakes and aquifers for fresh water. As glaciers melt faster, they are lubricated by meltwater that runs between the ice and the ground the glaciers flow over, making them move ever faster towards the sea. More fresh water to be lost to the ocean. More fresh water to affect climate via ocean circulation.

But enough about water. The above are just facts. Should one be water in spirit? Water accepts its lot in life. Water assumes the form of any container it is stored in. Water takes the path of least resistance. It flows effortlessly to the sea. It flows around obstacles, yet erodes any obstacle with an imperceptible certitude. In many ways, Beingness is like water.

Be like water. Accept what you can't change. Give life and love and yourself. Embrace all you meet. Remember too, that water quenches fire, moves earth, displaces air. Flow, embrace, be water.

Wonderful Water. Great Post, John.

This is a great post. Water, fluidity, able to get to places that solids can't. It can accept things that solids can't.

Thanks.

Kathy,
I mean Li Shao Lung, the little dragon. He too was a disciple of J. Krishnamurti but he never mentioned it. Bruce Lee was the Jiddu K. of the eastern martial arts.
